Two rounds of four-day residential training on Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)—Hypertension, Diabetes, and Cancer—were organized at the Community Health Centre (CHC), Sonua block of West Singhbhum district, under the Integrating Care Companion Program and Participatory Learning and Action initiative. A total of 124 ASHAs from Sonua block participated in the training, with 64 participants in the first round and 60 in the second. Dr. Deviprasad Hansda, Medical Officer In-Charge (CHC Sonua), inaugurated the programme, emphasizing the importance of community-led action in NCD prevention and encouraging ASHAs to take ownership of the PLA process. Suchitra Rath from Ekjut shared details about the initiative and delivered encouraging remarks.
The training was facilitated by Kalyani, Anjlina, Manisha, and Sweety from Ekjut, with support from the master trainers—Block ASHA Facilitator and ASHA Facilitators of Sonua block. Dr. Nirmala and Dr. Sachin shared scientific and practical insights on NCDs, helping participants connect technical knowledge with community-level application.
The training significantly enhanced the knowledge and skills of ASHAs, strengthening their facilitation, communication, and documentation competencies. Participants expressed increased confidence in leading PLA meetings and mobilizing their communities toward improved health and NCD prevention outcomes in Sonua block.
